The Appearance of That Which Cannot Be Seen

The Appearance of That Which Cannot Be Seen
For the exhibition »The Appearance of That Which Cannot Be Seen«, scientists and theorists were invited to engage with artist Armin Linke’s photographic archive: Ariella Azoulay, Bruno Latour, Peter Weibel, Mark Wigley and Jan Zalasiewicz have separately selected pictures from Linke’s photo archive, now comprising more than twenty thousand images, and have commented on these in texts and interviews.
The exhibition during the GLOBALE at ZKM Karlsruhe made this process visible while audio recordings comment on the selected groups of images. These groups are changed during the course of the exhibition, allowing to emphasize on different topics at different times

I collaborated with Alina Schmuch and Jan Kiesswetter on the exhibition design: the display panels can be moved and interchanged easily, turning the space into a scenery where the process of selecting and rearranging is always present. The large quantity of photographs called for inexpensive yet elegant displays and the design of the panels, stands, tables, and benches was derived from the efficient way theater sceneries are constructed.

After the first show at ZKM in 2015, the exhibition has already travelled to PAC Milano (2016) and Ludwig Forum Aachen (2017).
